Our History:
 
Oakland Medical Group is well-established having had its origins with the solo practice of Dr. Harry Akesson.  He began practice in the early 1940's, and was joined by Dr. Glenn Malley ten years later. With the addition of two more internists in the late 1960's, a corporation was formed.  At that time, we moved from 29th Street to a specially designed facility at the present location.  For many years we had a satellite office in Montclair.  At times we have had as many as seven internists and are currently staffed with five. Although our staff has changed over the years, we continue to serve our patients from Alameda County and beyond with the same personal care we provided in the 1940's, updated for the 21st century.

Our Services:                
Our practice provides primary care to adults and seniors.  Our doctors take care of a wide variety of medical problems, and pride themselves on maintaining active hospital and nursing home, as well as office practices. In our office, we offer treatment for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, the common cold, coughs, season allergies, muscle or back pain, insomnia, benign prostate enlargement, erectile dysfunction, and infections such as urinary tract infection, bronchitis or cellulitis. We provide referrals to medical and surgical sub-specialists, as well as diabetic and other educational classes.  We perform EKGs on site. Minor surgical procedures such as incision and drainage of local wound and steroid injections can also be performed in the office by our physicians.  In addition, we have a full service on-site laboratory, capably managed by a licensed clinical laboratory scientist. Our lab is CLIA-compliant and accredited by COLA.
 
In addition to treating medical problems, we also promote health maintenance for adults. We provide adult vaccinations including flu shots, pneumonia shots, shingles vaccine, tetanus, etc.  A full list of vaccinations is provided below and information regarding the vaccine can be downloaded as a PDF file from the links at our web site on the next page.  We also provide Pap smears for women of reproductive age, colon and prostate cancer screening, and mammography referrals. 
 
Our physicians are affiliated with the Alta Bates Summit Medical Center-Summit campus. Emergent care is usually directed to the Summit campus.  Most of our physicians go to nearby nursing home facilities as well.

  • We no longer accept Medi-Cal as a primary or secondary insurance
